Midwives Model of Care

The Midwives Model of Care includes:

* Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
* Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
* Minimizing technological interventions
* Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

Let sleeping dogs lie

I know every dog parent thinks they have the cutest dog children but I could not resist sharing this adorable picture of Mr. Bailey! He is especially cute when he is sleeping and not tormenting his cat siblings!

Healthy Start Coalition Breakfast

This morning was the Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas County's breakfast. Jennie Joseph, LM, CPM was there as the guest speaker. She was so fascinating to listen to. She spoke about the high rates of infant and maternal mortality in the United States, which ranks 2nd worst in the industrialized world! Jennie made a beautiful point: every woman wants a healthy baby and she deserves one. A statement I will not soon forget...

Accepted!

On Friday I received my long awaited letter from the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. I was so nervous I had Mike open it and read it to me aloud. Accepted! Classes start August 30th! I'm so excited to go back to school for something I am so passionate about! I feel so fortunate and blessed.

Deciding to blog

Deciding to blog wasn't an easy decision for me. I have really horrible grammar. I'm not the best speller. Plus, I'm not always sure what I say makes any sense. So why am I blogging you ask?

Well, I want to blog so that I have a venue to discuss things I find interesting like anthropology, gardening, healthy cooking, breastfeeding, childbirth, doulaing and midwifery. Also, I love reading blogs that parallel my interests. They give me insight into things I may not have been familiar with before and motivate to me pursue my dream as an aspiring midwife. Perhaps someone will find something interesting about my blog- but I may be getting ahead of myself.

With that said I hope you enjoy reading. I love blogs with lots of links and pictures and my goal is to create a blog I would enjoy reading... so here's to trying!
